The Maholian Way - Part Four: Maholians as world citizens

Reducing Maholia’s global footprint

As we have seen, Maholians are committed to adopting greener domestic policies and practices: to become more environmentally efficient, to switch to renewable resources, and to reduce excessive consumption. This saves the resources and improves the environment not only of Maholia, but of the whole world. It is a policy driven not just by ecological concerns, but also by concerns of justice. All the world’s citizens have an equal right to use the world’s limited resources, and an equal obligation to refrain from fouling and depleting the planet.

As a result of these domestic policies and practices Maholia is able to make a commitment that by 2025 it will be completely self-sufficient in energy production (wholly obtained from renewable sources), its net generation of greenhouse gases will be negative, and its imports in relation to exports will not constitute a net drain on the rest of the world’s labour and resources.
