About Robert Salter

My name is Robert Salter and I have lived most of my life in Melbourne, Australia, though I have just moved across the continent to Perth.

Over the course of my life I have been a community worker, tertiary teacher, campaigner, student and writer. My community work has been in the areas of disability, recreation, childcare, community education and community development, and I have been a campaigner for environmental and overseas aid organisations. My lecturing has covered sociology, politics, community development and related subjects.

I have a Doctorate from Victoria University, Melbourne. My thesis was on a political movement in India in the 1970s, known as the JP Movement, and the lessons to be drawn from it about political and social change in India and elsewhere.

I am married and have two adult daughters. I feel strongly connected to family, friends, and local community, and greatly enjoy inner suburban life – as well as venturing beyond it.

I am deeply committed to doing what I can – chiefly through the sharing of ideas – to make this marvellous world of ours an even better place, especially in light of some serious threats that it faces.
