The gestation of The Maholian Way has spanned about twelve years (though for most of this time it has been a very part-time pursuit). It has been informed and inspired by reading, discussion, research, teaching and many other professional and personal experiences, and in this process I have drawn on the information and ideas of people far too numerous to mention (though many are cited in references).

It has been a fairly private activity, but I am indebted to the following people for their contributions to its production. Firstly, to my very good friend Mac Nicoll, for his unflagging belief in the project, his promptings and encouragement, his reading and re-reading of drafts, and his candid, wise and supportive comments that have led to many changes, both large and small. (Needless to say, I am entirely responsible for any shortcomings in the final product.) Secondly, to Paul Andrews, for his highly professional work in setting up the Maholian Way website. Thirdly, to Stini Spevak, for so accurately turning my hand-drawn map of Maholia into the map you can see on the site, and to Tim Harwood, for early assistance with the website. Lastly, I want to thank my wife, Christine, my daughters, Sharna and Iona, my wider family and my friends for their acceptance of this strange obsession of mine, and for enabling me to experience good relationships at first hand.
